This document describes the changes and corrections made to Easy
Format with each version. Versions are listed in reverse
chronological order (most current version first, original version
last).
Version 3.20 - November 30, 1990:
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Earlier versions had a bug which appeared sometimes when
adjoining clusters were marked as bad. This bug caused some bad
spots to look like lost clusters. Fixed. Special thanks to
Stephen L. Russell of SLR Systems for reporting this problem.
Earlier versions had a problem with the last sector in the second
FAT on 3 1/2 inch, 1.44Mb diskettes. The faulty second FAT was
corrected automatically the first time a file was copied to the
diskette. This problem is now corrected.
Beginning with version 3.10 we added a safety feature in the form
of a verification program (EasyChek.EXE). Since that time we
have had many complaints about EasyChek. Users seem to dislike
this safety precaution. Therefore, as of version 3.20, the
verification program has been removed from the Easy Format
package.
Among users of versions 3.00 and later, the single most requested
feature, was to make the custom boot message more customizable.
Due to the added difficulty and expense of translating all screen
changes into German and Spanish, we have decided to postpone this
feature until the next major upgrade. However, to make sure that
our users have the capabilities they need, we have added a simple
utility program, BootUtil.EXE, to do the job until the next major
upgrade.
Added the ability to <Esc> from the main menu to the Exit submenu
(still requires <Enter> key confirmation to exit from the
submenu).
By popular request, we have made the Quick Options "sticky".
Version 3.11 - April 30, 1990:
~~~~~~~~~~~~
A minor change affecting only those systems which always have a
debugger (like Periscope) loaded.
Version 3.10 - April 16, 1990:
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Made it easier to choose the drive on which to format.
Changed the way delays (pauses) are handled to help keep delay
times accurate when running on computers with fast clock speeds
(30MHz and above).
On some versions of DOS, the DOS "SYS" command was unable to make
an Easy Format formatted diskette bootable. This problem was
corrected. This change was made to EzFormat, FormatF, and
DvFormat.
Changed the way 5¼ inch, 1.2Mb drives are handled. Some 1.2Mb
drives take longer than normal to come up to speed (360 rpm).
Now, when an error is detected on cylinder 0 of a 1.2Mb diskette,
EzFormat will wait 8/10ths of a second longer before retrying the
operation.
As a safety precaution to protect users, a verification program
was added to the Easy Format package. EasyChek.EXE may be used
to verify the programs in the Easy Format package. EasyChek
examines the .EXE files to determine if they have been modified
in any way.
Version 3.00 - February 12, 1990:
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Completely redesigned from scratch. Every feature was new or
improved and compatibility with the hardware from different
manufacturers was extremely high. Version 3.00 incorporated
three programs - EzFormat.EXE, FormatF.EXE, and DvFormat.EXE -
into a single package.

Versions 2.xx - 1989:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Added support for the other common disk and drive sizes but was
still not compatible with the hardware from some manufacturers.
Versions 1.xx - 1988:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Versions 1.xx - called XFormat, supported only 360Kb diskettes in
360Kb drives.
